The 5th of October, 2018, the dictatorial resolution for the protection of the Pacasmayo wave was signed. With the signature, we move on to the last stage to obtain the complete legal protection of the wave.

The dictatorial resolution was signed by the General Directory of Capitancy and Coastguards which approves the protection of the Pacasmayo surf break in the National Register of (surf) Breaks, also known as RENARO

This enrollment process has been one of the longest, yet one of the most successful too. When it was presented, there was an overlap with the area of  Nacional Portuary Authority (APN), who had idealed their plan of portuary development to take place where the break begins. After numerous interviews, meetings, the support from APN and the Navy, the area was declared as part of the Law for the protection of the break.

The funds raised in order to financiate the technical record were achieved thanks to the athletes who supported the protection of our waves. Special credit for those who leadered the fundraising: Roberto Luna, Ignacio Belaunde and the locals and their donations: Roberto Klima, Duke Kahanamoku Hostel, Hostal Playa Linda, Tecnica Avicola, and neighbours which succeeded to defer the construction of a breakwater on the beach El Faro  in 1994; a threat which was transformed to be an opportunity for the economical development of the town, based on tourism.

We say thank you to the Navy of Peru, the FENTA (national surf federation) and to all the institutions and people commited with the conservation of our waves.

How can I join?

In order to enroll each wave in the National Register of Surf breaks,  and finally protect it, a technical record has to be elaborated, which must then be presented to Dicapi. The cost of this record is around 5,000 dollars. The FENTA (national surf federation) has identified 144 surf breaks along the coast of Peru. with the help of municipalities, institutions, athletes, and any individual who values the importance of taking advantages of our coast without destroying it. Together, we have raised $80,000 and protect 26 surf breaks symbolic to Peru.

We seek to raise funds with the purpose of financing the technical records which will achieve the protection of the waves of San Bartolo, Peñascal, El Huayco and Puerto Viejo.
